Noun
[edit]pod person (plural pod people)
- (derogatory) A conformist person, especially one who lacks personality or originality.
- 1996, Constance Hiser, Sixth Grade Star:
- If I hadn't known better, I would have sworn that aliens had stolen the real Jessica and replaced her with some pod person.
- 1999 September 7, Erica Rothschild, “Graffiti” (1:58 from the start), in Downtown[1], season 1, episode 6, spoken by Chaka Henson (Leyora Zuberman), archived from the original on 6 May 2026:
- “Not my fault! The trash can move.” “Don't sweat it, Chaka.” “Uh, You okay? You're not yelling at me for for hanging out here? You're not even gonna tell me I piss off the neighbors?” “Nah, do what you want. Hang out. Piss on the neighbors if you want. I really don't care. I now know what it feels like to be on the other side of trouble. Oh yeah.” “Was that my pain-in-the-ass older brother or some kind of pod person?”
- 2003, Bett Williams, The Wrestling Party:
- "I'm not stalking you," she said, with all the sincerity of a pod person in The Body Snatchers.
- 2017 April 4, Will Campos, Dez Dolly, Daniel Johnson & David Welch, “Cinethrax” (3:31 from the start), in Dimension 404[2], season 1, episode 2, spoken by Uncle Dusty (Patton Oswalt):
- “All right, how 'bout we play a little Lordi?” “It's pronounced "Lord."” “I know that, I meant Lordi, the Norwegian death metal band.” “Lordi is Finnish, not Norwegian.” “See, there she is, there's my niece! Yes, I was so afraid my yuppie brother had turned you into a pod person.”
- 2023 February 6, Caitlin Moscatello, “The Fleishman Effect”, in New York[3]:
- Both avenues are shit. You can stay in New York and climb, climb, climb and never get where you need to go and give yourself a nervous breakdown, or you can move to the suburbs and be like, Who the fuck are these pod people? Neither seems great.
