[edit]From Old Galician-Portuguese *feijõo, variant of feijoo, from Latin phaseolus, probably from Ancient Greek φάσηλος (phásēlos). Doublet of Feijó.
Cognate with Galician feixón, Ladino fijon, Spanish frijol, Catalan fesol and Italian fagiolo.
