Etymology

From Proto-Cushitic *caanrab- (“tongue”). The first element may be preserved as can (“inner buccal”) and is found in Southern Cushitic; Kw'adza ondalimo (“tongue”), Mbugu lu'anda (“tongue”), Dahalo ʕééna (“tongue”). The second element is of uncertain origin.
