Etymology

From Ukrainian Львів (Lʹviv), from Old East Slavic Лвовъ (Lvovŭ) or Львовъ (Lĭvovŭ), originally named after the founder's son, Левъ (Levŭ), Lev I of Galicia (ca. 1228 – ca. 1301).
