Luxembourgish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Middle High German brët, from Old High German bret, from Proto-West Germanic *bred, from Proto-Germanic *bredą. Cognate with German Brett, Dutch berd. The regular singular would be *Brett also in Luxembourgish; the form Briet was generalized from the former dative by analogy with the plural.
