Project updates and fixes (through July 31, 2025)
[edit]Here's the latest updates and fixes for WikiProject Louisville:
- Our Leaderboard is now feature-complete, after a few more updates:
- Added a column for "Project Participation (%)", the percentage of an editor's overall edits that they did for in-project pages.
- Enhanced the intro information with hints on how to use the list.
- Revised ranking symbols and redesigned the Rank Key.
- The page is now connected to the main project navigation.
- Created new reports to list citation errors and maintenance issues that exist within our project's included articles. Note that citation errors already appear in our cleanup issues listing but maintenance issues do not. For optimal usage of this information, please follow instructions in each report.
- Created a new report to list WikiProject Louisville's stub-assessed articles without any stub tags. This report constitutes a new "major backlog" shown on our front page.
- Redesigned the project navigation banner, mainly to clarify which pages are truly departments and which are not, and also make the link to project talk more prominent.
- On the Requests page, even more new article requests have been added from various sources (we now have over 1,200 in total!), and the categories have been somewhat reorganized, with a lot of help from an IP editor. Also, a new section "Contributing to the request list" was carved out from the intro area to clarity how to make requests.
- The infobox image on the front page was changed to a newer, clearer image of the Louisville skyline at night.
- Added a link from "Past Week's Hot Edits" (front page) to the list of WikiProject Louisville's 100 most edited articles in the past 30 days.
- Expanded priority articles to include Top/High-importance lists.
- Expanded and cleaned up the intro areas of various reports.
- Rewrote various database queries used by lists/reports to comply with recent and upcoming changes to Wikipedia's database, as well as to enhance performance and usage.
- Did quite a bit of other minor cleanups/improvements around the project.
Enjoy. Please let me know if you have any questions or ideas for other improvements. Stefen 𝕋owers among the rest! Gab • Gruntwerk 01:33, 2 August 2025 (UTC)
Project updates and fixes (August 1 – October 24, 2025)
[edit]Here's the latest updates and fixes for WikiProject Louisville, which were mostly done in August and early September:
- The front page underwent major redevelopment:
- Created the "Recent in-project activity" section, which shows the last 100 content changes and last 100 discussions/assessments to demonstrate ongoing in-project work.
- Created the "Insights" section to show the table previously shown in the "Lists, logs and query results" section on the Resources page. During this migration, I fixed issues in some of the listed PetScan reports.
- Redesigned "Project Articles Needing Action". What's visible to users is that the number of rows was increased from 7 to 10, and it's now easier for non-techies to revise the entries. In programming terms, the changes constituted a major refactoring, making it more modular and including the use of named arrays and a for loop (radical concepts for Wikipedia template development at this juncture).
- Redesigned the Backlogs table to 1) make it automatically sortable by Total, descending; 2) add a "% of Articles Affected" column; 3) have a ">= 50" threshold for row display (i.e., if there's fewer than 50, there's not a true backlog); 4) improve aesthetics somewhat.
- Added project stats to the "Goal and scope" section.
- The OldIssues report underwent a major redesign: 1) Now fully automated; no more manual intervention needed as it a) automatically subtracts year listings when all the issues for a year are fixed, and b) automatically adds year listings as new "old" years occur (each New Year's Day); 2) Dramatically reduces database queries; therefore report generation is much more efficient; 3) Removes false positives (which were few, but we still don't want any).
- Improved intro of the Nursery report, including links to intersection reports showing entries that have too few categories, or too few outgoing or incoming internal mainspace links.
- Added a list of intersection reports to both the citation errors and citation maintenance issues reports.
- Scott County, Indiana is no longer in the Louisville Combined Statistical Area, so topics related to that county are no longer eligible to be included in our project. The coverage map was updated accordingly.
- The project navigator was revised to include a project talk page banner discouraging discussion of news, research or other tangential matters involving Louisville area-related topics.
- On the "Assessments" page, added "Index · Statistics · Log" links to the top right above the assessments table.
- On the "Tasks" page, made several readability enhancements.
- On the "Resources" page, added and revised useful editing tools.
- Made a couple template-space templates using internal project code, so as to enhance code efficiencies in the project. This especially made the Milestones display on the front page far less complex in its code (I may be able to spin that off as a template other projects can use at some point).
- Did quite a bit of other minor fixes and cleanups around the project.
Enjoy. Please let me know if you have any questions or ideas for other improvements. Stefen 𝕋ower's got the power!!1! Gab • Gruntwerk 04:46, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
Project updates and fixes (through February 22, 2026)
[edit]Here's the latest updates and fixes for WikiProject Louisville:
- New report: Forgotten articles. These are WikiProject Louisville-included articles which haven't been edited by a human being in over a year. The goal with this list is identify articles needing fresh attention or making sure editors who may want to work on them are maximally aware of their existence.
- In project navigation:
- added links to the Forgotten and StubMissing ("Unstubbed") reports
- revised some of the nomenclature for enhanced user understanding
- reverted the change where the project navigation was revised to include a project talk page banner discouraging discussion of news, research or other tangential matters (it's overkill)
- Completed various reworks:
- Front page; "Coverage Area" (now showing Fort Knox, which is within the Louisville CSA), "Project Articles Needing Action" (formatting only), "Current project backlogs" and "Insights"
- Tasks and Requests departments
- Project to do list
- Nursery report intro
- Clarified project inclusion in WP Louisville vs. WP Kentucky, via changes to the front page and the Resources department (see the "Project-oriented templates" section).
- Did quite a bit of other minor fixes and cleanups around the project.

Archive.today links are going bye-bye - How to help within this project
[edit]In case you haven't found out already, the Wikipedia community has decided to remove or replace Archive.today (and related) archive links used in citations within the Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:archive.today guidance for details. To help with this endeavor, we have two project reports that show where these links are within our project:
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Louisville/Archive.today
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Louisville/CiteMaint (find entries with "CS1 maint: deprecated archival service" in the last column)
Please let me know if you have any questions. Cheers! Stefen 𝕋ower Huddle • Handiwerk 04:57, 7 March 2026 (UTC)
Project members are invited to participate in the Destubathon of the Americas, a contest/editathon which will run from May 1 to May 31. The goal is to destub as many of our 475,000+ stubs for the Americas (from Alaska down to Chile) as possible. A good chance to have fun in expanding many of our old stale stubs and win up to $2680 in Amazon vouchers for expanding stub articles. Sign up in the Contestants/participants section on the contest page if interested. Even if not interested in prizes you are still warmly welcome to participate in it as an editathon! Hopefully we can achieve something significant in the month of May together! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:10, 14 April 2026 (UTC)
Project updates and fixes (through May 16, 2026)
[edit]Here's the latest updates and fixes I have completed for WikiProject Louisville:
- New reports (click on each to learn more; both are shown in "Current project backlogs"):
- Archive.today (announced earlier)
- FewProjects
- Added already existing CiteMaint and CiteErrors reports to "Current project backlogs"
- Refactored a number of reports to make use of more robust article link (result) counting so more immediate reporting of changes can occur.
- Refactored "Current project backlogs" to make use of more robust article link counting in reports, as well as to simplify adding database reports to the list. I also added useful notes under the titles of some concerns, including a link to our 500 largest stubs to assist with reassessment of stubs.
- Completed Phase 1 of dark mode compatibility; Notes:
- While in dark mode, changes are most noticeable in the top navigation and on the front page, but interior departments have been reworked to some extent as well; several components were significantly refactored.
- Remaining work involves redesigning first the project's banners and userboxes, then later the project alerts (dropdowns with the color-coded backgrounds).
- Reworked the Participation department:
- Removed unused staff lists, and replaced these with discussion of technical participation.
- Redesigned the "Active participants" list, especially to add an automated pruner to keep it tidy with truly active editors.
- Redesigned the opt-out lists.
- Made additional styling updates to the top navigation to enhance visual cues and make better use of real estate.
- In the OldIssues report:
- Added a caution to not remove cleanup tags from articles just because they are old, and that they may be removed only after the issue they describe has been fully addressed.
- Fixed bug where the footer in each year table was mistakenly sortable with the entries.
- Made various other tweaks and fixes.
Special Note: WikiProject Louisville will be 20 years old on June 7, 2026! Big thanks to everyone who has contributed to Louisville area-related articles and other pages over the decades!
As always, I hope you enjoy the updates. Please let me know if you have any questions or ideas for other improvements. the Stefen 𝕋ower 01:53, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
