My account is 4 days old and i have 50+ edits, but still no option to publish my sandbox article. How can I publish it. --Xvqytral (talk) 02:47, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Xvqytral: It looks like you're referring to College of Engineering Kottarakkara, and that you've figured out how to move your article to mainspace (i.e. publish it). A few notes, though: Tol (talk | contribs) @ 22:45, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- You moved your sandbox article to mainspace, but then also created the duplicate page College of Engineering, Kottarakkara. Please don't create duplicate pages on the same thing; I've redirected the duplicate to the article.
- An article on this school was previously deleted as the result of a discussion, as it was not found to meet the relevant notability guidelines; it will likely be deleted again unless it can demonstrate that it does in fact now meet notability guidelines. Based on a cursory search, it still does not. I have hence again nominated it for deletion, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/College of Engineering Kottarakkara. I would recommend for you to read the notability guideline for organisations (linked previously) as well as the general notability guideline for more information on the concept of notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
- How to participate in deletion debate, it's a legit page of a legit organization, I have quoted available government sources. Can you please tell me what caused it for speedy nomination. The duplicate creation was solely the result of my inexperience, and I will ensure it is not repeated. Thanks for your message. Xtral (talk) 03:13, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Xvqytral: If there's anything that's confusing or that you still don't understand, please feel free to ask. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 09:42, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
- To participate in the discussion, you can just post comments on it, as you've already done.
- Regarding
it's a legit page of a legit organization
: I don't know what you mean by "legit" in this context, but my understanding is that it means "legitimate". As mentioned in the notability guideline for organisations that I linked previously, an organisation (such as a school) is not considered inherently notable due to its existence. - Government reports and filings are generally considered primary sources, not the secondary sources that are typically expected to establish notability.
- I've already tried to explain to you why I nominated it for deletion: it does not appear to meet the notability guideline on schools, and was previously deleted for this reason.
- Regarding the duplicate: No worries!
- Ok thanks for the guidance, I have sourced maximum reference as I could, I am new to wikipedia editing, so Happy to learn guidelines and will remember next time while publishing articles. Xtral (talk) 15:05, 22 May 2026 (UTC)

Reopening an old move discussion
[edit]Hi Tol,
I'd like to ask you to reconsider your closure of this requested move back in 2023. I understand your rationale "it's quite confusing to present a proper noun in lowercase", however the subject has explicitly expressed their preference for their name to be presented under-capitalized. There are other examples of individuals with a similar preference on Wikipedia. Examples include:
bell hooks and k.d. lang
Additionally the Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS 8.4) states that "Unconventional spellings strongly preferred by the bearer of the name or pen name (e.g., bell hooks) should usually be respected in appropriate contexts".
While the NYT and AP articles from 2013 and 2019 print her name conventionally, more recent sources honor her preferred style. See 1 and 2, as well as an article in the SF Chronicle, an announcement from the MacArthur Foundation and from the Columbia Law School.
Thank you for all your work across the platform. Da.mappr (talk) 00:03, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Da.mappr: I opened this RM; I did not close it. Wikipedia does not follow CMOS; we follow our own house Manual of Style, which applies the different standard of "when the lowercase variant has received regular and established use in reliable independent sources". If you think capitalisation in sources has changed, you are welcome to open another RM. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 06:16, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
I was just wondering, I’m trying to cite a article for computing and would oracle be a good source? Thanks in advance --Kodyues (talk) 03:03, 29 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Kodyues: The reliable sources guideline would be relevant. Wikipedia generally prefers independent, secondary sources — which Oracle is unlikely to be — but primary sources can be used in some circumstances. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 22:59, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
