Cherie Lily
[edit]Thank you so much for reviewing the Cherie Lily draft. You seem to be wanting to know the three most notable references for the article, and I am having difficulty choosing, as there are many good ones, and they span a few different subcultures and realms of Lily's work. I will do my best to highlight 3, but hopefully you'll forgive me for reinforcing them with others.
- A feature in Out Magazine. I'm referring to the "Need to Know" one, although my draft also references song review, a show review, and a video interview published by this outlet, which is both in print and online (and at one point, televised). I am citing Out's insistence that people "need to know" Lily because this outlet is one of the most important ones in the US focusing on LGTBTQ culture, period. You can Google "most prominent LGTBQ magazines in the USA" and Out will be near the top of the list every time. Also towards the top of such lists is Queerty, which has mentioned Lily regards to collaboration with Cazwell and Amanda Lepore (both of whom have their own Wikipedia pages).
- Interview/workout/music video feature on Here TV's Just Josh. Again, a Google search for top LGBTQ television channels in the USA will have Here TV near the top every time. The citation is a pretty in-depth, televised interview driven by Lily's creative output and persona (as well as her fitness career). The network also featured her on three episodes of their show Threesome. She also had a speaking (and vomiting!) role on the IFC (American TV channel) program Food Party.
- Billboard Magazine feature on Kevin Aviance's new album. It was hard to choose between this and the Vice photo-feature on Lily's own album release party. Again, I'm sure you don't need telling that Billboard and Vice are among the biggest music magazines in the country, next to Rolling Stone. And Kevin Aviance is a major drag and club music celebrity, famously sampled by Beyonce, who is the world's biggest R&B singer bar none. I am choosing this article because not only is Lily the founder of the label that published the featured album, but the article goes into depth to say highlight Lily's musical contributions as producer and co-writer of the single "Bloodlines." She is quoted in the article, giving background to the song's creation. Given that the album is just a few months old, the recency of the article should show sustained notoriety over time for Lily. Any list of most prominent music publications in the US will also mention Pitchfork, which published a video depicting Cherie Lily participating in the recording sessions of Lee "Scratch" Perry's Grammy-nominated album. The first reviewer also mentioned that I should rely on Time Out (magazine) (another print and online publication), which debuted one of Lily's songs, and recommended her her live shows. Bonus: Lily as part of Andrew W.K.'s band on Conan. She is also featured prominently in the music video for the song being performed, but I have not referenced it as I am trying to go lighter on Youtube references, per other reviewers' feedback.
There are perhaps other references that I have chosen instead of these, and I have a few more secondary sources to slot in if I need to, but I really think the above references communicate a pivotal creative presence both onstage and behind the scenes. Lily's story is fascinating, culturally consequential, and ongoing. I very much appreciate your time and attention to this matter. FogleMorplethorpe (talk) 18:08, 26 January 2026 (UTC)
- @FogleMorplethorpe: The first source might be okay. The second one I can't access, there appears to be a geoblocker. My problem with the third article is that it's not significant coverage of her, it's just a passing mention. Same with the photo essay - it suggests she's notable, but I'm not sure it demonstrates notability. Same with the Time Out articles - they are very short. Being quoted doesn't really help on Wikipedia for notability - the gold standard is what others (secondary sources) say about the subject. For instance are there any reviews of her music you could find, especially ones that are a step removed from her/don't interview her? I apologise if I seem like I'm being strict here, I just want to make sure that if it's accepted, that the article won't be deleted. SportingFlyer T·C 18:29, 26 January 2026 (UTC)

- Hello - apologies for the delay. I appreciate your thoroughness. While we were having a dialog, another reviewer came in and rejected the submission. You can read their reasoning here, and you can read an exchange, which the reviewer dropped, over here. I'll be blunt, honestly seems to me that the reviewer is working through a digital translator.
- In summary: Their contention is that all of the sources were related to Drag Race and her notoriety follows from her association with that show. This is false on its face. While most of Cherie's clients on the business of her career were on that show, most of the music and musical collaborators discussed in the draft have nothing to do with it, as I already put in my notes to reviewers in the talk section of the draft. I very clearly explained to this reviewer that Cherie's work for Drag Race contestants is through her role at a company called Voss, and only 7 out of the 71 sources I've cited refer to this aspect of her career and notoriety. The majority of my sources are about her own contributions as a musician, producer, and creative persona, as well as fitness which relates to all of the above, sort of her angle.
- Note: The draft I wrote discusses a period starting in 2006. Lily didn't begin her employment with Voss, the company the represents the Drag Race contestants, until 2019. Most of my sources are from before then.
- Now to your concerns:
- -Here is HereTV's official reposting of the Cherie Lily Segment. It is also available to view on AppleTV.
- -As to the Billboard article, I would contend that it is more than a passing mention as she is quoted and the track that she produced is listed as a stand-out, with 3 paragraphs out of the article dedicated to it. A similar, but perhaps less visible citation, would be this article on the album from Variety Magazine, which also quotes Lily. Just an FYI, Kevin Aviance is a notable (non-Drag Race affiliated) artist who was sampled by Beyone in recent years. Also, with the TimeOut articles, agree that the concert listings are short, but I'd contend the one article that debuts her song is arguably biggish deal, given that it was in print and online for a pretty important NY publication.
- Nonetheless, if you are looking for more pieces of substantial coverage specifically on Lily or her work, here are some citations in the draft that I haven't mentioned in my previous message to you (**indicating publications that are both online and in print):
Buzzmusic** article on Cheries 2025 remix for Amanda Lepore
Get Out!** article on "Kiss My Lips" single
GayCalgary** article on "Body" single
Get Out!** article on "Shade Served" single
National Post** (Canada) interview (haven't added this one yet)
Broadway World article on Cherie's Werk remix Ep
The Upcoming feature on Cherie
Splice Today article on Cherie
Mizz Fit feature on Cherie
EQ feature on Cherie
True Hollywood Talk on Cherie's "Shade Served"
Electro Wow article on "Shade Served"
Shorter, high-visibility articles focusing on Cherie:
Alternative Press** review on Dripping Wet EP
Xex Magazine** article on the Werk release party (same event Vice covered)
Xex Magazine** article on "Body" single
Impose Magazine article on Cherie release party
Out article on Cherie concert (not the same as the Out article I sent earlier - this is an in print article but I don't believe this article was in print)
Instinct Magazine piece on "Body" (ditto)
More TV apart from the HereTV feature: Out Magazine TV show (Out Presents) episode with another 10 min interview of Cherie
3 Episodes of Threesome with Cherie as featured guest - 1 2 3 - also on AppleTV
Cherie as Virgin Mary on Food Party
Cherie on CBS News Cherie as part of Andrew W.K.'s band on Conan (big deal)
Cherie mentioned or quoted in big articles on her affiliated project (not including the Billboard or Variety ones mentioned above):
Guardian article on Andrew W.K.
Cherie in a Pitchfork mini-doc recording the Grammy-nominated Lee Scratch Perry album
Interview Mag on Amanda Lepore music
LA Weekly scene report featuring Cherie show
LadyGunn article on Amanda Lepore and Cherie
Out feature on Cazwell song
Out Traveler article on Voss
Queerty rundown featuring Cherie song
Resident Advisor anthems listing featuring Cherie's song
Gayety article on Kevin Aviance song
Scholarly article calling Cherie an "icon of the gay scene" - My hope is to make a few adjustments, including a few more miscellaneous citations, maybe some clarity so that people don't think it's all about Drag Race for whatever reason, and hopefully the draft will be reviewed by someone more considerate than the person who most recently denied it. I welcome any of your thoughts and am grateful for your time.

- Hello - I have resubmitted the article. In the talk section I have posted a more detailed breakdown of the current references, and I have given a detailed discussion about how the subject meets a number of Wikipedia's notability standards for music (only 1 required). Thank you! FogleMorplethorpe (talk) 05:52, 10 April 2026 (UTC)

Query
[edit]Hello, SportingFlyer,
I was just going through my User talk page and noticed that I didn't respond to your question at User talk:Liz/Archive 64#Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ante Čedo Martinić, It's been too long at this point to reopen a closed AFD discussion but I have some advice I can give you. However, you have been inactive for the past few months so I don't know if this article is still a concern you have.
Whenever you return to editing on the project, feel free to come back to my User talk page and we can restart this conversation. I hope that your life is going well off-line. Take care, Liz Read! Talk! 23:58, 6 June 2026 (UTC)
