Album certifications
[edit]Hi Lil Unique, do you happen to know much about how album certifications work? If so can I ask you a question regarding them? Pillowdelight (talk) 15:43, 20 February 2026 (UTC) , I know a little, I can try and help. >> Lil-unique1 (talk) — 19:50, 21 February 2026 (UTC) So when an album certification has been let's say certified platinum and a month later an article is released stating the album has sold 300,000 pure sales so obviously we add that if it's available. But let's say a year later the album has now been certified 2X platinum. Do we keep the sales ref? I always believed we removed it if a new cert has been issued because it would make the sales ref considered "outdated". I opened a discussion regarding this issue 2 years ago and all parties pretty much came to an agreement regarding this. I tried opening up another one but on Taylor Swifts talk page because I removed a sales ref on several of her albums due to a newly issued cert but a user is saying it needs to stay because "pure sales are not as volatile as streaming-adjusted certification, and this pure sales figure (as of 2024) is unlikely to move up significantly any time soon". I'm just curious what you think of this? Pillowdelight (talk) 00:39, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Pillowdelight I don't have a specific answer without researching more. Some certifications are based on sales equivalent units, some on streaming some on a combination of sales etc. Where there's a specific note to a specific type of sale e.g. physical sales, streaming etc. it could be worth keeping the specific ref. >> Lil-unique1 (talk) — 01:15, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
