Copper extraction

[edit]

I have reverted your edits to Copper extraction because they contained multiple errors where you misrepresented what the sources say. Please be careful to accurately reflect what is in the sources, per WP:V. Thank you, Opolito (talk) 00:41, 23 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Can you explain what is misinterpreted? Ingminatacam (talk) 00:46, 23 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
A few examples: sulphuric acid is used in copper leaching, it is not a byproduct of copper extraction. Similarly while some precious metals co-occur with copper and may be a byproduct of extraction, it is wrong to state they always will be. Also, the source you quoted for the increase in China's copper production said there was an 11% increase year-over-year, while you stated that is had been 11% annual growth for more than a decade. Opolito (talk) 00:59, 23 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Im working to address these issues. The sulphuric acid production is as in source: "One of the most significant byproducts of the concentrate smelting process today is the production of sulfuric acid." (p. 27). Which is logical as the sulphur (S) in copper compounds has to go somewhere during refining. About precious metals I am about to change the sentence that they "can be valuble byproducts". Thank you for the input. Ingminatacam (talk) 01:03, 23 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Copper mining in Chile, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Tailing. Merge of CAP S.A. and Compañía de Acero del Pacífico

[edit]

Hello! I notice a few months ago you added merge tags to CAP S.A. and Compañía de Acero del Pacífico. If you still think these should be merged, I suggest starting a new discussion on one of their talk pages to explain your rationale and let others weigh in. Otherwise the merge will probably never end up taking place. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 🛸 20:45, 27 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Thebiguglyalien, thank you. I just hoped for somebody else to jump in and dig a bit on the subject, wether CAP is the same as Compañía de Acero del Pacífico or if the latter is a subsidary. The draft page for Punta Totoralillo is potentially eligible for publication on Wikipedia, but it currently lacks sufficient independent, reliable sources to meet Wikipedia’s notability guidelines.

To improve the chances of acceptance: 1) Add independent sources: Look for news coverage, government reports, or academic publications discussing the port’s role, impact, or development. 2) Clarify significance: Emphasize why Punta Totoralillo is notable—e.g., its strategic importance, unique infrastructure, or role in Chile’s mining exports.

3) Avoid promotional tone: Ensure the article maintains a neutral, encyclopedic style.

Hi Ingminatacam. Thank you for your work on Catedral (prospect). Another editor, Klbrain, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:

Thanks for creating a page for this large mining prospect; concise and clear. It would now be helpful to link it from places other than the disambiguation page.

Hi Ingminatacam. Thank you for your work on Fundición Chuquicamata. Another editor, Klbrain, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:

Thanks for this new page on a Copper smelter. While it seems reasonable to keep this as a separate page, readers might be better served by discussing this with its associated mine, Chuquicamata. This also applies to the other Codelco smelters. I also wonder whether, given that English titles are preferred, readers might be better served by moving the page to Chuquicamata smelter if this is the name used more often in English sources.

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Klbrain}}. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

Klbrain (talk) 01:52, 29 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Klbrain:, Thanks for the patrolling. Fundición Chuquicamata is part of a series of articles on Chile's seven copper smelters (e.g. Fundición Caletones, Fundición Altonorte). These are important items of heavy industry in Chile and Chile is the world's leading producer of copper. Each of them is encyclopedically relevant enough to warrant an own article. Mining and smelting are different processes and Fundición Chuquicamata also serves the neaby mines of Ministro Hales and Radomiro Tomic which are also owned by Codelco and lie close to Chuquicamata. Ingminatacam (talk) 02:00, 29 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
That's very reasonable. What do you think of the use of the term 'Fundición' rather than 'Smelter' (or an similar English term) for the series, given WP:ENGLISH? Klbrain (talk) 02:06, 29 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Klbrain:, I have though about this also, but I have not thought nor investigared long enough to reach definitive conclusion. If you are confident about renaming please go ahead, but please do it on all seven Chilean smelter articles. I am most concerned that all smelters are named consistently. In that case I wonder if "smelter" should be capitalized, mines in Chile are so far not capitalized (e.g. Radomiro Tomic mine) but I have seen articles on other mines capitalized. Ingminatacam (talk) 02:14, 29 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
I checked on ngram, and there is more use of Caletones Smelter in the English corpus. Regarding capilatization, the use seems rather split: smelter seems marginally ahead, but it's a close call! For Altonorte Altonorte smelter looks much stronger Klbrain (talk) 02:27, 29 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Fundación Terram moved to draftspace

[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to Fundación Terram. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing as a live article at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability and these sources should be independent of the subject of the article.. I have converted it to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit the draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Boynamedsue (talk) 22:09, 20 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
