Template:Uw-redcat
Before adding a category to an article, please make sure that the category page actually exists. In some cases, it may be appropriate to create a new category in accordance with Wikipedia's categorization guidelines, but it is usually better to use the most specific available existing category. It is never appropriate to leave a page categorised in a non-existent category, i.e. one whose link displays in red. You may find it helpful to use the gadget HotCat, which tests whether a category exists before saving a change. Thank you.
This template should always be substituted – use {{subst:Uw-redcat}}. Any accidental transclusions will be automatically substituted by a bot. |
| Any breaking changes to this template, including moving it or nominating it for deletion, must be communicated in advance to Twinkle's users and maintainers at Wikipedia talk:Twinkle. The standard installation of Twinkle relies on this template. Thank you. |
Usage
{{subst:Uw-redcat}}{{subst:Uw-redcat|Article}}references a specific article{{subst:Uw-redcat|Article|Additional text}}adds text onto the end of the message instead of "Thank you"{{subst:Uw-redcat||Additional text}}or{{subst:Uw-redcat|2=Additional text}}also adds text onto the end of the message instead of "Thank you", but doesn't link a page as specified by the article.
Please remember to substitute the template using {{subst:Uw-redcat}} rather than {{Uw-redcat}}.
To customize your message, parameters are available; one to add the article name, and one to add additional text at the end of the message. If your param value contains an equal sign (as urls often do), then be sure to explicitly specify the positional parameter by number; i.e., use |1= or |2= followed by the value; e.g., |1=XYZ=Repainting.
