Removing citation template from History section

I'm going to remove the citation template from the history section. There's nothing in here to explain why the citations were listed, but as there are quite a few citations already I've decided to remove this.

Weatherbox update

map layout

A lot of articles on places such as Florence carry multiple maps, because the place is large and complex. This article has had a set of pushpins map which indicate the general position of the city in the infobox, and a route map in the Transportation section. The coordinates are linked to the mini atlas, indicated with a tiny icon.

So I added a {{infobox mapframe}} map that shows the basic administrative boundaries, features (such as rivers, roads, greenery), labels for features (such as towns, neighbourhoods, streets), and contains the zoom in and out facility to be able to interact with the map and find much more. It also allows for visual links to articles to be shown on the map, so a reader can find a breadth of various landmarks.

For example, it takes me 6 clicks on the zoom in (+) button in the mini atlas on Florence to reach the level of being able to see e.g. Parco delle Cascine. With mapframe, after 4 clicks to zoom in I can already see the names of the streets inside the park, and the click on Show nearby articles there also shows Palazzina Reale delle Cascine.

Showing these sorts of detailed maps should be encouraged, to help readers orient themselves in the article topic area better. I don't know how we can encourage the use of the mini atlas more, but for the mapframe the default is to just show the thumbnail map, which is noticable and colorful and should help spread knowledge better. --Joy (talk) 08:50, 19 October 2025 (UTC)

If you want to look at all the streets and their names you should be looking at a map and not a Wikipedia article. The current infobox is fine for orienting a reader to where Florence is, it shows our readers where Florence is within both Tuscany, Italy, and even Europe if they are really struggling. So you're against maps as supporting materials in Wikipedia articles, one of the standards of higher article class? I don't think it is the general consensus that we deprive readers of readily available, unintrusive map information. --Joy (talk) 07:35, 20 October 2025 (UTC)

Infoboxes aren't required for FA nor are any parameters of the infobox. I am not against maps: there is already a map in the infobox. Traumnovelle (talk) 07:40, 20 October 2025 (UTC)
