The Copyright Act 1956 (4 & 5 Eliz. 2. c. 74) was an act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom which received its royal assent on 5 November 1956. The act expanded copyright law in the UK and was passed in order to bring copyright law of the United Kingdom in line with international copyright law and technological developments.[1]

[edit]Section 50(2) of the act repealed 6 enactments, listed in the ninth schedule to the act.[2]

Subsequent developments
[edit]Section 45 of, and the sixth schedule to, the act was repealed by section 9(3) of the Dramatic and Musical Performers' Protection Act 1958 (6 & 7 Eliz. 2. c. 44), which came into force on 23 August 1958.[3]
The whole act was repealed by section 303(2) of, and schedule 8 to, the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, which came into force on 1 August 1989.[4]
