BigTime Software, Inc. is an American software company headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. Founded in 2002, the company develops cloud-based professional services automation (PSA) software for small and medium-sized enterprises.

The software manages the financial project lifecycle, including quoting, revenue recognition (quote to cash), time tracking, resource management, and invoicing. The platform is used primarily by consulting, architecture, law, and accounting firms. Originally operating under an on-premises model, the company transitioned to a SaaS model in 2011 and has expanded its market presence through private equity funding and corporate acquisitions.

History

The company was founded in 2002 by Brian Saunders, initially operating under the name Edison's Attic, Inc. and offering locally installed professional services software.[1] Saunders developed the first version of the software and served as chief executive officer for over twenty years, initially self-funding the company's operations.[1]

In 2010, the company was renamed BigTime Software, Inc. In 2011, BigTime transitioned to a SaaS model, supported by a Series A funding round of approximately $4 million.[1]

BigTime Software was listed on the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies in the United States in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023.[2]

Acquisitions

BigTime Software has acquired the following companies:

  • BigTime Enterprise PSA (July 2022) – a cloud-based PSA software vendor, formerly Projector PSA.[3][4]
  • Primetric (August 2023) – a Polish startup providing resource and financial planning software for IT firms. The acquisition added financial analytics features to BigTime's platform and established a European office.[5][6][7]
  • WorkRails (November 2024) – a CPQ platform and workflow automation provider.[8][9]

Organization and management

The company is headquartered in Chicago. It also maintains offices in Tempe, Arizona; Boston, Massachusetts; and Wrocław, Poland. The Polish location employed approximately 30 people as of 2023.[10][11][6][5]

Brian Saunders served as chief executive officer from 2002. Following the acquisition of a majority stake by Vista Equity Partners, he became executive chairman.[1] In early 2025, Don India was appointed as the new CEO.[12]

Funding

BigTime operates as a private company. Total funding raised across at least five rounds is estimated at $117–119 million.[9][13]

In 2019, the company secured $14 million in a Series B round led by Wavecrest Growth Partners, with participation from MassMutual Ventures and Migration Capital.[1][13] In January 2022, Vista Equity Partners acquired a majority stake through a $100 million investment.[14][15][16]

Following the 2022 transaction, Wavecrest Growth Partners retained a minority stake. Additional investors include LTC Partners, Geneva Venture Partners, Howell Capital, and Runa Capital.[13][9]

Software

The company's primary product is a platform designed to manage operations for professional services firms. The software contains modules for project management, resource allocation, time tracking, business planning, and financial processing.[17][18][15]

Platform scale

In 2019, the platform was utilized by over 2,000 companies.[1][13] By 2022, prior to the Vista Equity Partners investment, the user base grew to 2,300 firms tracking approximately $4 billion of billable time annually.[19][14][17] Following subsequent growth and acquisitions, the software serves an estimated 2,700–3,000 firms and over 100,000 users, tracking over $10 billion in billable time annually.[4][6][7]

The platform has been included in B2B software market directories. G2 ranked BigTime first in its Grid reports for the Professional Services Automation category in 2020 and 2021,[22][23][24] and placed it second in the same category in 2026.[25] As of April 2026, the software held a 4.5 out of 5 rating on G2 based on user reviews.[26] Capterra has also listed the software in its PSA and time and expense tracking categories.[18]

According to BigTime Software, the average implementation period for the platform is approximately 1.5 months.[27]
