The 44th Hong Kong Film Awards (Chinese: 第44屆香港電影金像獎) honors the best Hong Kong films of 2025. Organized by the Hong Kong Film Awards Association, the ceremony took place at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon on 19 April 2026.[1]

Winners and nominees

[edit]

Nominees were announced on 10 February 2026.[2][3]

Winners are listed first, highlighted in boldface, and indicated with a double dagger (‡).[4]

Shortlist exclusions

[edit]

Four films were excluded from the official shortlist for the awards without explanation from the organizers, which has raised questions from the local film industry.[5][6]

On January 13, 2026, the Hong Kong Film Awards announced the "List of Films to be Officially Released in Hong Kong in 2025" for the first round of voting. The eligibility criteria stated that any Hong Kong film that has been publicly screened in Hong Kong for the first time from January 1 to December 31, 2025, and has been screened for no less than five times in seven consecutive days, is automatically eligible to participate in the '44th Hong Kong Film Awards'. Filmmakers do not submit their films for consideration, nor can they with draw. However, it was reported that four films—Valley of the Shadow of Death, Finch & Midland, Vital Signs, and Mother Bhumi—that should have been eligible for nomination were missing. At least two of the missing films were on a reference list circulated to HKFA committee members before being removed in subsequent revisions.[6] All four films feature cast members that have been the subject of political or criminal controversy in Hong Kong or mainland China.[6][7] The Hong Kong Film Awards Association refused to comment on the incident.[8][7]
