‘Mission: Impossible’

Top Gun isn’t the only Tom Cruise movie hitting a major milestone this month; May 22 marked 30 years of Mission: Impossible! Directed by Brian De Palma, Mission: Impossible is based on the classic ’60s TV series of the same name that followed a group of field agents versed in espionage working for the Impossible Missions Force. The film, which spawned an eight-movie franchise, stars Cruise as Ethan Hunt, an IMF field agent. When Hunt is framed for the deaths of his IMF crew members, he goes to great lengths to prove his innocence. Mission: Impossible introduces viewers to Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames), who becomes a mainstay of the franchise and one of Ethan’s closest friends, and it also features one of the series’ most iconic set pieces: the Langley CIA heist where Hunt is lowered from the ceiling to steal secret information from an inaccessible computer. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to stream Mission: Impossible (1996) soon, whether you’ve never seen it or it’ll be your tenth rewatch. You won’t regret it.

Prime Video isn't the only streamer with a stronghold on book-to-TV adaptations. Peacock is making a strong showing with The Five Star Weekend, inspired by Elin Hilderbrand's 2023 novel of the same name. Boasting a fittingly five-star cast of Jennifer Garner, Regina Hall, Chloë Sevigny, D'Arcy Carden, Gemma Chan, Timothy Olyphant, David Denman,... ‘My Lady Jane’

I'll be the first one to admit that I slept on Prime Video's My Lady Jane precisely because it was advertised as a girlboss rewrite of Tudor history. What Amazon should have led with, instead, is that it's actually a romantasy series where Lady Jane Grey (Emily Bader) is married to a hot guy (Edward Bluemel) cursed to spend his days as a horse.... ‘Batman Begins’

After seeing The Odyssey earlier this week, I promptly realized that I have not watched Christopher Nolan's entire filmography, and of the films I have seen, it has been years since I've watched them. That is how I came around to turning on Batman Begins on a random Wednesday evening, and it's how I realized just how much I've been missing out on. ... Read more

‘Moana’ (2016)

While I'll probably find myself at my local theater this weekend checking out Disney's new live-action Moana, I'm revisiting the animated movie (which I believe to be a top-to-bottom perfect movie) it's based on first. Drawing inspiration from Polynesian mythology, Moana follows the titular character (voiced by Auliʻi Cravalho), a 16-year-old... Read more

‘Wet Hot American Summer’

While I can't wait to watch David Wain's new comedy, Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass, which released in theaters this weekend, I also can't wait to watch his 2001 cult classic, Wet Hot American Summer, for the billionth time. This satirical summer camp movie just never gets old, from the young cast of before-they-were-famous actors... Read more

‘Trying’ Season 5

Trying one of Apple TV's sweetest, most underrated treasures — returns for its fifth season on July 8, and no surprise, the series is as charming and comforting as ever. Season 5 picks up shortly after Season 4's eventful finale, which left Scott's (Darren Boyd) fate up in the air and saw Princess (Scarlett Rayner) and Tyler's (Cooper... Read more
