DCYF Data Shows Dramatic Decrease in Child Fatalities, Near Fatalities

A total of 7 critical incidents were reported in the first quarter of 2026.

The Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) released the latest critical incident data that shows a 63% decrease in child fatalities and near fatalities for those families that had previous child welfare involvement.

Washington State Expands Access to Free Preschool (Spanish | Somali)

An additional 2,500 slots at 54 ECEAP sites added for the 2026-2027 school year.

The Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) is adding approximately 2,500 slots to its Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) in the 2026-27 school year.
