CULC’s research initiatives are central to our mission and to promoting the value of Canada’s urban libraries. By generating and disseminating knowledge, we empower libraries to serve their communities and adapt to evolving needs.

Our research provides evidence necessary for informed decision-making, policy development, and advocacy, ensuring that libraries remain integral to vibrant, democratic societies. We prioritize applied research that reflects Canadian experiences and contexts. By collaborating with internal and external partners, we focus on:

  • Gathering comprehensive data to inform best practices and benchmark performance
  • Developing metrics that serve as management tools for local decision-making and facilitate comparisons at regional, national, and international levels
