She managed the Open Society Foundations\u2019 work to define open access to research through the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.budapestopenaccessinitiative.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Budapest Open Access Initiative<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (BOAI) and went on to support the development of the global open access movement. To mark the 20th anniversary of the BOAI, she spearheaded the development of<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.budapestopenaccessinitiative.org\/boai20\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> new recommendations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which emphasize that open access is not an end in itself, but a means to further ends, above all, to the equity, quality, sustainability, and usability of research.
