Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Regarding deleting own "low-quality" photos

Hi, I have seen that you have requested deletion of you own photos for being "low quality". If you want to replace your low-quality photo with its high-quality version, you can do the following:

Open the low-quality photo.
Scroll down (or swipe up, if you're uploading from phone via browser) till you get a blue link saying "Upload a new version of this file".
Click the link and it opens a new page.
Scroll down (or swipe up) till you find the button saying "Choose file".
Click the button and choose the high-quality version.
Write something like "Higher quality photo" on the "File changes" text box.
Click "Upload file" and voillà!

But if you want to delete your low-quality photo with no replacements, note that certain photos are useful to illustrate the subject of a Wikipedia (or any Wikimedia project) article, and "low-quality" photos are sometimes better than no photos here. Also, as I'm usually concerned with, try to avoid uploading images from the internet unless it is explicitly mentioned that the images can be used without the author's permission. Thanks. Note that I'm not a good photographer, and many of my photos are not of good quality. However, some of my photos capture subjects for which no other images are available (or captured in a unique perspective), and I tend to keep the photos uploaded by myself. Hello, thank you for your contributions. We appreciate that many of your uploads appear to be your own work. However, I also noticed that some files you uploaded may be copyright violations.
