You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

File:Legality of cannabis in Europe.svg has been marked for speedy deletion. (Reason: Map is used by user in cross-Wikipedia vandalism and POV pushing. Created with the specific purpose of removing disputed regions as per the creator's political alignments, based on edit history and comments the creator has made on talk pages. This is an exact replica of my map File:Legality of Cannabis in Europe.svg, with the exception of the disputed regions it removes. (Despite the user not stating that the map derives from my file). Creator did the same thing with the following files - replaced File:Map-of-world-medical-cannabis-laws.svg with File:Adult legal status of cannabis for medical use.svg as well as replaced File:Map-of-world-cannabis-laws.svg with File:Adult legal status of cannabis possession for recreational use.svg, where visually there is no difference but the code for Crimea has been removed. User will be reported on both Commons and English-language Wikipedia.)

Why not upload a picture of a plant, animal, or anything else which fits into our scope. You can contribute any media type you want, including but not limited to images, videos, music, and 3D models. I have noticed your comments regarding the maps I created and uploaded, and I’d like to provide a detailed explanation of my position.

The maps I created reflect internationally recognized borders as established by the United Nations and supported by the majority of countries worldwide. My intent is to provide accurate and unbiased representations of geographic and political realities in line with international law, not to push any political agenda. Specifically:

1. Crimea: The territory of Crimea is internationally recognized as part of Ukraine. While it is currently occupied, this occupation is not legally recognized by the UN or the majority of states.

2. Unrecognized Entities (e.g., “DNR”, “LNR”, “Transnistria”, “Abkhazia”, “South Ossetia”): These regions are not recognized as independent states by most countries or international organizations. Representing them as separate entities on maps can mislead viewers and conflict with widely accepted geographic conventions.

3. My aim is to avoid presenting any politically controversial or unrecognized territorial claims as factually valid, which is consistent with Wikimedia Commons’ goal of neutrality and factual accuracy.

If there are concerns about the maps, I am open to discussing them in a constructive and collaborative way. I encourage a calm and respectful discussion instead of framing my work as “vandalism” or “POV pushing,” as such accusations are counterproductive and contrary to the spirit of Wikimedia’s collaborative community.

(Reason: Map is used by user for the purposes of vandalism and POV pushing across several different Wikipedia language sites. Replicates original map File:Euthanasia in Europe.svg while removing disputed regions as per the user's political alignment. User previously attempted to delete the original map (Commons:Deletion requests/File:Euthanasia in Europe.svg), but after failing to do so, decided to unilaterally replace it on all Wikipedia platforms. Hello Túrelio,

I have noticed your comments regarding the maps I created and uploaded, and I’d like to provide a detailed explanation of my position.

The maps I created reflect internationally recognized borders as established by the United Nations and supported by the majority of countries worldwide. My intent is to provide accurate and unbiased representations of geographic and political realities in line with international law, not to push any political agenda. Specifically:

1. Crimea: The territory of Crimea is internationally recognized as part of Ukraine. While it is currently occupied, this occupation is not legally recognized by the UN or the majority of states.

2. Unrecognized Entities (e.g., “DNR”, “LNR”, “Transnistria”, “Abkhazia”, “South Ossetia”): These regions are not recognized as independent states by most countries or international organizations. Representing them as separate entities on maps can mislead viewers and conflict with widely accepted geographic conventions.

3. My aim is to avoid presenting any politically controversial or unrecognized territorial claims as factually valid, which is consistent with Wikimedia Commons’ goal of neutrality and factual accuracy.

If there are concerns about the maps, I am open to discussing them in a constructive and collaborative way. I encourage a calm and respectful discussion instead of framing my work as “vandalism” or “POV pushing,” as such accusations are counterproductive and contrary to the spirit of Wikimedia’s collaborative community.

Should you have specific points of concern, I invite you to raise them either in a deletion request discussion or on the talk page of the map in question. I am happy to review and, if necessary, revise the maps based on a consensus reached through proper community dialogue.
