Fachbegriff gesucht

[edit]

Passt also alles. Viele Grüße -- Ra'ike T C 10:48, 25 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Raymond (talk) 13:32, 25 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Category discussion warning

Jargon has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Twist braid is not braid

[edit]

A braid formed by interlacing three or more strands. "twist braid" is knot formed by 1 strand from ABoK #569. revert changes pls Zaripov999 (talk) 04:02, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello Zaripov999, a twist braid could be a special form of a braid, but the Category:Twist braids didn't exist (like other thousands of non-existent categories) and the top category is Category:Braids. If you want to help to clean up the Category:Braids, feel free to build and fill appropriately defined subcategories. Greetings -- Ra'ike T C 05:38, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Telluronevskite permission

[edit]

Dear Ra'ike I have permission from Martin Števko. I asked him by email and he replied that he has no problem with publishing the mineral photos on Wikipedia. I forwarded that email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org, but nothing has happened yet. Mineralog sk (talk) 08:02, 14 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello Mineralog sk, please stop uploading images by Martin Stevko to Wikimedia Commons for the time being. I have found the “release” on the VRT website that you forwarded from Stevko.
However, the letter does not specify which images have been released for use, nor does it state the licence under which the images may be used. It is all the more important for Stevko to specify an exact licence if this is intended to be a general release for all his images.
I will try to clear that problem, but you could help and give the pictures the Category:Files by Martin Stevko, that are from Martin Stevko. -- Ra'ike T C 11:32, 15 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
OK, I will add the category to those files. Hopefully, I can figure out how to do it. Mineralog sk (talk) 08:30, 16 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

You may be an eligible candidate for the U4C election

[edit]

Greetings,

The Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) seeks candidates for the 2026 election. The U4C is the global committee responsible for overseeing enforcement of the Universal Code of Conduct. Elections are held annually, if elected a committee member serves for two years.

This year the U4C requires candidates to hold administrator rights on at least one wiki, which is why you are being contacted as you appear to hold this right. There are other requirements, such as candidates must be at least 18 years old and may not be employed by the Wikimedia Foundation or other related chapters and affiliates. You can find more information in the call for candidates on Meta-wiki. Additionally, the committee's working language is English; some ability to communicate in English is required.

The election opens on 18 May, if you are eligible and interested you have until 10 May to submit your candidacy. There will week between for candidates to answer questions from the community. Voting takes place privately in SecurePoll, successful candidates must receive at least 60% support. More information is available on the 2026 Elections page, including timelines and other candidacy information. If you read over the material and consider yourself qualified, please consider submitting your name to run for the committee. If you think someone else in your community might be interested and qualified, please encourage them to run.

Announcing the Winners of Picture of the Year 2025!

[edit]

Hi everyone,

Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.

Here are your top three winning images:

You can view the full results and see where all your favorite images placed here: Full 2025 Results

I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.

Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!

Regards,
ZI Jony
