Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Mape

Zamolio bih te da ne ubacuješ ovamo prepravljene verzije mojih mapa tvrdeći da si ti njihov autor. To što si nacrtao jedan crveni krug na mapi te nikako ne čini autorom te mape. Drugo, ne slažem se sa korišćenjem tih mapa u članku "Joint Council of Municipalities" na engleskoj vikipediji. Šta bi te mape trebalo tamo da predstavljaju? Nekakvo propagiranje srpskih istorijskih prava na teritoriji Hrvatske? Svih ovih godina koje sam proveo na Vikipediji se dosledno borim protiv propagiranja takozvanih "istorijskih prava" bilo koje države ili naroda prema svojim susedima, a ti očigledno nisi ni svestan šta možeš uraditi svojim ponašanjem: prvo ćeš iznervirati hrvatske korisnike na vikipediji, a neki od njih će onda hteti da uzvrate na tvoj propagandni napad na njihovu državu pa će onda vandalizovati moje mape koje si ti prepravljao i moraću onda par meseci da se objašnjavam sa njima zbog tvog ponašanja (a mnogo više volim da radim nešto kreativno nego da se sa nekim objašnjavam oko gluposti). te mape su rađene za ilustraciju istorije Srbije, a ne za ilustraciju istorije Hrvatske i svaki pokušaj propagiranja srpske državnosti na području Hrvatske je isto toliko neprihvatljiv koliko i pokušaji propagiranja hrvatske, mađarske, bugarske (ili čije već) državnosti na području Srbije. Kada sam karte uzimao za pisanje članka nisam znao ko je njihov autor, niti sam se time htio baviti jer se materijali sa wikipedije mogu slobodno koristiti? Ja se slažem da možda nije lijepo koristiti nečije materijale u suprotne svrhe nego je predviđeno, ali kada na wikipediji objaviš materijale to se jednostavno dešava. Iako vjerujem da to nisam dužan uraditi, budući da si me zamolio da ne koristim mape koje si napravio i omogućio javnu upotrebu, suzdržaću se ubuduće od njihovog korištenja. Da li se slažeš ili ne slažeš sa objavljivanjem neke mape u nekom članku to je naravno stvar za raspravu i tu se možemo složiti ili nesložiti, na kraju će se sukladno pravilima (ukoliko ne dijalogom) stvar razrješiti (iako si ti te mape već uklonio, a ja ih nisam vratio pa mi nije jasno u čemu je problem). Iskreno, ja se čak i slažem da su te mape vjerovatno bile suvišne za konkretnu temu iako možda nisu suvišne za nekakav članak pod drugim naslovom. E sad, što se tiče optužbe o propagiranju nečijih istorijskih prava par riječi. Iako se na osnovu objavljenih mapa možda dalo tako zaključiti, cilj ovih mapa je bio pokazati da Srbi u Podunavlju i Srbiji odnosno Vojvodini čine jednu zajednicu- što apsolutno ničim ne prejudicira i državno jedinstvo. Zar bi onda i neki potomci Monola na Kavkazu kada objave kartu srednjovijekovne Mongolije trebali prejudicirati obnovu te države? Naravno sve su te karte vrlo proizvoljne i svaka politička istorija je strašno opasna jer određenu (recimo to i kao bilo čiju) laž predstavlja kao temelj za obračun sa nekim ili nečim. Ja sam svjestan da nekoga mogu naljutiti ali ne mislim da se zbog tih koje će to naljutiti nešto treba ili ne treba napisati. Ja ne vjerujem u demokraciju bez žestoke svađe (odnosno iskrenosti u razmjeni mišljenja, bez autocenzure i bez obzira na decibele). OK. Vidi, materijal na vikipediji jeste slobodan za upotrebu ali samo uz uslov ako se znaju poreklo i autor materijala. Znaci, korisnici Vikipedije mogu ovde da postavljaju svoj rad i da ga daju u slobodnu upotrebu, ili mogu postavljati stare slike ciji je autor umro pre vise od 70 godina cime one vise ne podlezu autorskim pravima. Uz jos par izuzetaka, sve druge slike su zasticene autorskim pravima i ne mogu se koristiti na ovom sajtu. Sto se tice mojih mapa, ti imas pravo da ubacis njihove prepravljene verzije (kao sto si i uradio), ali si prema pravilima sajta duzan da navedes da su tvoje mape u stvari prepravljene verzije mojih i da sam ja autor originalnih mapa. U ovom slucaju ti nisi autor jer si samo modifikovao rad drugog korisnika (ti bi mogao sebe pisati kao originalnog autora samo ako nacrtas potpuno novu mapu na praznom lejeru u fotošopu i kao takvu je ubaciš na sajt - sve ostalo je "derivative work"). Dakle, ne zameram ti što si prepravljao mape već što nisi naveo njihovo poreklo. Ako ti ubaciš mape gotovo identične mojim i ako napišeš da si ti njihov autor time ćeš umanjiti i vrednost mog rada jer drugim korisnicima neće biti jasno ko je od nas autor tih mapa i samim tim će njihov status slika slobodnih za upotrebu biti doveden u pitanje. Dakle, ako prepravljaš tuđe slike, samo navedi poreklo slike i originalnog autora a sebe kao prepravljača i to je to. Drugo pitanje je upotreba tih mapa na engleskoj vikipediji. Da ih nisam ja sklonio iz članka, to bi sigurno uradio neki hrvatski korisnik, koji bi onda došao na wikimedia commons i predložio i tvoje i moje mape za brisanje kao primer "velikosrpske propagande". To govorim zato što sam već doživeo takve napade na moj rad, a rasprava oko tačnosti tih mapa mi zaista oduzima vreme koje bih radije potrošio na nešto kreativno. Inače, nisu nikada obrisali ni jednu moju mapu sa ovog sajta, ali sam potrošio mnogo vremena na raspravu oko sadržaja na nekima od njih. Te mape su crtane za ilustraciju istorije Srbije, a pošto su istorijske granice bile takve kakve jesu, neke teritorije prikazane na tim mapama obuhvataju i delove nekih susednih država, zbog čega su neki korisnici pokušali da me optuže za "velikosrpsku propagandu". Zato se trudim da se upotreba ovih mapa ograniči na članke vezane za Srbiju, jer realno gledano ni meni se ne bi sviđalo da neko stavi mapu NDH ili velike Mađarske u članke o Srbiji ili Vojvodini. Jednostavno, mislim da se o istoriji etničkih zajednica u bilo kojoj državi može pisati bez nečega što nekome može ličiti na propagiranje "istorijskog državnog prava" susednih država, bez obzira da li je tako nešto zaista nečija namera ili ne. In my past life :). Im just kidding of course. In fact there is no copyright owner for that picture (at best there are a lot of them). And if even someone could ask some sort of right on the picture, this right to this date has expired since the image is very old. Much bigger problem which is there now is a problem with my other pictures that you marked for deletion. How to solve this now? S pravom sam uklonio kategorije sa tvojih slika jer ja sam postavio kvalitetnije inačice tih istih slika, pa nema potrebe da se ista datoteka pojavljuje više puta. Ti si te kategorije vratio iako si primjetio nove datoteke, pa u čemu je onda štos? Isto tako, nazivi datoteka nisu dobri. Ovo je Zajednički poslužitelj, što znači da se svaka slika može koristiti na svakoj Wikipediji, stoga je preporučljivo korištenje engleskog jezika kod imenovanja datoteka. Ubuduće se toga pridržavaj. Kao što reče preporučljivo je, nisam još saznao da je obavezno. Ti si napravio duple datoteke, ako misliš da nije dobro da se duplo pojavljuju mogao si nove verzije učitati i na originale. Zbog toga sam ja vratio i kategorije na originalne slike te sam na tim novim, dosta boljim verzijama, naveo ko je autor istih, od kuda su prenijete i dodao opis i na srpskom jeziku i ćirilici koji si ti, gle čuda, nekim slučajem po ko zna koji put htio izbaciti sa zajedničkog poslužitelja. Ipak, najvažnije je da će opštine o kojima govorimo sada imati još bolje i ljepše članke. Volim i ja tebe i lijep pozdrav.--MirkoS18 (talk) 17:28, 1 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Ta Ivanova napomena o imenovanju datoteka nije tačna. Može da se koristi bilo koji jezik pošto je ovo višejezički projekat. Za više informacija pogledati Commons:Language policy: Files can be named in any language. Dear Wikimedian,

You are receiving this message because we noticed that you previously voted in the Picture of the Year contest. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favourite images featured on Commons during the last year (2025) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

In this second and final round, you may vote for a maximum of five images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2025.

Hi everyone,

Wikimedia Commons is pleased to finally announce the winners of this year's Picture of the Year 2025 contest! We had some truly incredible finalists to choose from, but the community has spoken.

Here are your top three winning images:

First place: The aftermath of an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City on October 9, 2023, leaving widespread destruction in the Rimal area.

I also want to highlight what an incredible turnout we had. In the second round, we saw a massive jump in both the number of users voting and the total votes cast. We had exactly 13,979 votes cast by 3,509 users! To put that in perspective, last year we had 7,403 votes from 2,837 users. It is amazing to see that level of growth and community engagement.

Thank you to everyone who voted, helped organize, and generally made the contest such a huge success this year!
