Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

Copyright
[edit]The Wikimedia Foundation is legally bound to obey copyright law. The page that you keep removing the notice from carries a license that explains in plain English that it must have been published prior to 1946 for the material to be hosted on Commons. The article was published in 1947. You may not like the copyright law, but it is reality. Your removal of the tag out of process doesn't change that. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:36, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
- I have listed this matter at the administrators noticeboard. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:44, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
- My apology for the rude edit summary as well as the edit warring. That was wrong and I shouldn't have done that. I understand that you're just trying to enforce the rules and did not deserve this behaviour. --Frederico1234 (talk) 17:17, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you. :) I understand that we can feel passionately about things and sometimes in the heat of the moment react strongly. I appreciate your reconsidering it from my perspective. And I'm sorry I didn't get your note more quickly, but I had not visited Commons for a few days. If the Commons community doesn't decide to resurrect the image (evidently they do allow exceptions for material made illegal under that particular US law, which I did not realize and are discussing if they should allow this one), it may be usable under fair use on Wikipedia. If you want to talk about it, please drop by my talk page on the English language Wikipedia. As you see, I'm not here very often. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:55, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
