No FoP in France

Given that there is no Freedom of Panorama of any sort in France, and I keep seeing files you uploaded DR'd on that basis, is there some chance you could identify more of these yourself and perhaps do a mass DR on those so that they do not keep arising one by one? - Jmabel ! talk 02:19, 27 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

To be honest, I am not comfortable handling a mass deletion request, as I have never performed one before. In light of the violations for which I was responsible and the complexity involved, I am concerned about creating additional problems rather than helping. From what I have observed in past cases (i.e. Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:FOSSASIA Summit 2018, Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Files from Sylvain Kalache Flickr stream with bad file names), even experienced users can run into complications, which discourages me from attempting this myself.

The majority of the recent deletion requests relate to files with similar naming patterns ("place @ city") from the Files from Guilhem Vellut Flickr stream, I moved some of them in subcat by city to make them easier to identify in batches. I also continue to refine the categorisation from my watchlist in general, which already takes a significant amount of time and effort.

I understand that. So here's another suggestion that might be simpler for you. Would it be OK with you if we create a user category with a name like Category:Fabe56 no-FOP uploads and you can just add that to things that clearly show French architecture from the last 75 years or so when you run across it, then maybe once a week I can set up a mass deletion based on those? Similarly if there are other no-FOP countries from which you've uploaded comparable files. There is good information on which countries this would apply to at Commons:Freedom of panorama. As you can see, besides France, this is an issue for Italy, for a good hunk of Eastern Europe and Southwest Asia, most of the Arab countries, most of Africa, and a smattering of others. I'm not asking you to find everything, I'm not asking you to deal with the marginal cases like how long an architect lived after designing a building in 1920; just pick up some of the blatant stuff when you find it. Would that work?

Part of the goal here: I understand why you are gun-shy after what happened. I'd like you to start learning your way around this so that somewhere down the road you start to develop the right reflexes for this that you can successfully do third-party uploads without having such a high percentage be problematic. - Jmabel ! talk 15:10, 28 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Isn't redundant with the WIP categorisation's refine I doing? i.e. La Géode is already a NoFoP-category, some buildings seems also excempt for reason I do not know (but this is another subject) like the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie.
