More NotLessOrEqual socks

[edit]

Similar pattern to previous NotLessOrEqual socks: using multiple burner accounts to upload one or more NASA videos and gifs (some badly AI upscaled, some without specific sources given) and then using a different account (previously burner Wikipedia accounts, now logged-out TAs) to add a batch of them to English Wikipedia articles. The images are added in the same particular style, including overusing animated gifs and swapping them inappropriately into infoboxes.

eg. This edit from a TA added File:Friendship 7 NASA 1962.webm from User:GoingOrbitaI and File:NASA Project Mercury 1958.webm from User:GushyTombs. Three days later another TA added several videos from User:Colimarl (an earlier sock) to a related article, in a similar manner.

The user's past uploads have included copyrighted segments taken without credit from television documentaries, and NASA/military footage upscaled so badly that named people became unrecognisable, so a precautionary delete of all uploads may be appropriate.

Given that they'd used about thirty burner accounts last time, this may also benefit from a checkuser. Belbury (talk) 15:22, 26 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Jill Wruble

[edit]

Please remove all blocks and protections from this page. I am trying to add relevant photographs and the system is stopping me. Thank you. SandraLynnWrites (talk) 21:18, 27 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@SandraLynnWrites: No such page Jill Wruble found. If your issues are on enwiki re en:Jill Wruble, see en:WP:HD.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 21:47, 27 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Page: Jill Wruble

[edit]

When I try and add images to this page, it tells me that "This page is currently semi-protected, and can be edited only by established registered users." It then gives me a link to this forum to request the semi-protection be removed. I have already posted here and someone gave an answer that I did not understand as it appeared to be in some 'wikispeak" that mere mortals do not comprehend. Please can someone take the protections off this page. To find the page, just Google "Jill Wruble Wikipedia" Thank you. SandraLynnWrites (talk) 23:39, 27 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@SandraLynnWrites: As Jeff said above, you are at a wrong place. We cannot do anything about what is on Wikipedia, which is completely a different project. You probably mean en:Jill Wruble, and should ask at en:WP:HD. signed, Aafi (talk) 23:42, 27 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
If this is an entirely unrelated project, why does the link bring me here? Seems odd. SandraLynnWrites (talk) 00:05, 28 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
This page is currently semi-protected, and can be edited only by established registered users.
Semi-protection is sometimes necessary to prevent vandalism to popular pages. Most media files and gallery pages can be edited by anyone.
The reason for protection can be found in the protection log.
If you have a user account, log in first. If you do not yet have an account, you may create one; after a while, you will be able to edit semi-protected pages.
You may request unprotection of the page. SandraLynnWrites (talk) 00:07, 28 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
@SandraLynnWrites To what exact page do you "try and add images"? If you are trying on an English Wikipedia page using the Visual Editor to cross-wiki upload, please see our proposal about restricting that behavior; you may upload each file here on Commons with Special:UploadWizard instead, and then place the images using the instructions at en:H:PIC. When I give you text that shows in blue, I expect you to click on that text to read the underlying link; when you come back, that text should show in purple.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 00:49, 28 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have reverted en:Jill Wruble to the last version before that account's arrival; this is undisclosed paid editing. Whyiseverythingalreadyused (t · c · he/him) 02:27, 28 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
That is a serious (and untrue) allegation. Could someone please help in directing me to the appropriate authority to report "whyiseverythingalreadyused" for this strangely and entirely inappropriate personal attack? SandraLynnWrites (talk) 02:42, 28 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
@SandraLynnWrites: This page should suffice, but if no one takes it up here, COM:ANU would be a little more appropriate.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 16:18, 28 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you Jeff. I am new to this and working hard to stay within the group's guidelines. SandraLynnWrites (talk) 02:42, 28 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
@SandraLynnWrites: You're welcome.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 16:19, 28 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
@SandraLynnWrites, speaking as someone who is an administrator on both Commons and the English-language Wikipedia (en-wiki), assuming your en-wiki were in good faith, you need to learn a little more about Wikipedia style for linking. In en-wiki, external links should almost never be inline in the text, and should rarely be included except as references, in which case they belong inside the <ref> element, usually as part of a {{Cite web}} or similar template. I understand why Whyiseverythingalreadyused thought it smacked of paid editing, even if he was wrong: we get a lot of that, where people are trying to drive users to click to external sites more under their control.
As for uploading pictures to Commons: the best tool for relative beginners is usually Special:Upload on Commons (distinct from the similarly named tool on en-wiki). If you are uploading your own photos, it is very straightforward; if you are uploading other people's works, or photos that incorporate other people's works (e.g. a photo of a document, poster, etc.), then I strongly recommend reading COM:THIRD before you upload. It should be about a 20-minute read, and will give you a good overview of what to do and, probably as importantly, what not to do. - Jmabel ! talk 20:18, 29 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Request to unblock K7yz3

[edit]

This is completely overkill (as usual) from Yann. Files being nominated indiscriminately is a perfectly legitimate issue to bring up and punishing users for bringing up said issue does not serve any purpose other than to create a chilling effect by making users afraid of doing so. --Trade (talk) 00:34, 29 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

And no the users' previous copyright issues is not a valid excuse as Yann explicitly states the block was retaliation for making the complaint --Trade (talk) 00:35, 29 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Trade: It is longstanding practice that reporters must have clean hands.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 06:55, 29 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'll admit that I haven't looked closely at this (I'm traveling, and have about half my usual time for Commons) but usually the "clean hands" thing is more a reason to make a process-based close as "keep" than to block the reporter. - Jmabel ! talk 20:21, 29 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
There's also the obvious issue of creating an environment where users becomes afraid of bringing up issues in case the responding admin decides to retaliate Trade (talk) 21:54, 30 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@帝王69, I hope you have read WP:BOOMERANG. Making random allegations against someone without any proof is not a nice thing, that too against a longstanding user like @Ikan Kekek. Shaan SenguptaTalk 08:41, 29 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

User:Bien Bones Banez, Jr. sock

[edit]

Per User:Marbletan's observation at Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by ZBGOMEZ:

This is long-term abuse that is part of a larger effort at self-promotion using multiple accounts (Category:Sockpuppets of Bien Bones Banez, Jr.). Outside of COM:SCOPE. See prior deletion discussions at Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Blakezz, Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Bienvenido Bones, Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Paintings by Bienvenido Bones, and probably others.

Sounds like a block and a deletion of their remaining uploads would be appropriate. Belbury (talk) 10:28, 29 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Whatjapeenedtoyou, apparent block evasion

Whatjapeenedtoyou was indef blocked a few days ago for uploading copyvio images of Shri Syed Ata Hasnain.
