Just a question... (Featured picture candidates/File:Göpelschachtanlage Naturschutzgebiet Staatsbruch Lehesten IMGP7124 5 DxO Sharp denoised.jpg)
[edit]Hi! Just a question... you said 8 support and 1 oppose. I think it is 9 support and 1 oppose. (S-votes 12:44 19 May, 14:48 20 May, 04:34 22 May, 18:19 23 May, 19:51 23 May, 02:52 24 May, 11:46 24 May, 11:40 26 May and 05:58 27 May. O-vote 09:23 26 May.)
Please tell me if am am wrong. :-) // Zquid (talk) 14:47, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
- You're right, it was my mistake; the recount confirms 9S/1O. My script blocks the voting lines immediately after the bullet, which removed the weak line
Support, from Rhododendrites (the word "weak" is outside the template, breaking the block). The script now accepts weak/strong/very strong. The results template in the nomination has been corrected. The result doesn't change (9 ≥ 7 and 9 ≥ 2×1), so the promotion stands; no further file cleanup is needed. Thanks for reporting it, cheers! :) Wilfredor (talk) 15:08, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

[edit]Hi @Wilfredor, just a question and I don't wont to spoil the nomination: why does this photo have 58MP when the Z7II has "only" 45MP? The reason for that is nowhere given. Regards! Julia --Granada (talk) 09:36, 31 May 2026 (UTC)
- Don’t worry about bothering me with my nominations. Several users have already treated me very carefully. What happened is that it is a panoramic combination of 3 images, and afterward the final version was cropped, the crop can be seen in the upload history. I’ll add the corresponding template. Thanks for reminding me; I suspect you’re using the review script :) Wilfredor (talk) 11:45, 31 May 2026 (UTC)
- Not only the review script - I know that the Z7 II has not a single pixel more on it's sensor than my Z9. :) But I'm using your new scripts wherever they may suit me and so far they work great for me. --Granada (talk) 15:10, 31 May 2026 (UTC)
- The Z7 uses the same sensor; the Z9 focuses faster and has a more robust body, but the image quality is the same for a significantly lower price. However, I must admit that processing a larger RAW file would be slower. Wilfredor (talk) 15:16, 31 May 2026 (UTC)
- Sorry for nitpicking but if Wikipedia is correct, then this from Nikon_Z9 applies: "The Z9 has the same 45.7 MP resolution as the Z7 and Z7II cameras, but uses a much faster stacked CMOS sensor which improves autofocus and continuous shooting performance.". In fact I did not buy me the Z7 as a replacement for my trusty D850 but as a sports photographer I was excited when I read about the new stacked sensor the Z9 would get and waited until I could afford one. Your concerns about shooting RAW are valid: I bought me a new gaming laptop and larger memory cards to process the nearly 8000 photos I made during the ESC. I was really happy that the Z9 has two CF-Express-Slots. --Granada (talk) 17:14, 31 May 2026 (UTC)
- That's right, the Z9 would be the replacement for the D850. However, I must admit that I prefer the D850 body; those cameras were much more thoroughly tested, and the internal mirror provided an additional layer of protection. Both the D850 and later models all have Sony sensors. The D850 would be equivalent to an A7R III, the Z7 II would also have the same sensor, and the Z9 would be something like a Sony A1 II. I was also only able to develop the photos with an ARM Mac, which I highly recommend if you can afford it. You can find inexpensive, high-performance models like the M1, M2, etc. Wilfredor (talk) 18:17, 31 May 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for recommending Apple Laptops to me, but I'll stick with AMD, the GeForce 4080RTX, Linux and just for Lightroom Windows per dual boot. I've tried MacOS several times since the 1980s and still cannot get used to it. btw: the Z9 has a "shutter" in front of the sensor protecting it from dust and dirt while changing lenses. Really nice! --Granada (talk) 19:39, 31 May 2026 (UTC)
- I really like Linux a lot, although unfortunately it is a system that can break easily if you do something wrong, and the software available for photo developing is simply not comparable to its commercial versions. I have been using Linux for 26 years. Back then, things were more complicated; today it is very easy to install and use. I have a preference for Debian. Recently, I tried using Asahi Linux on my macOS machine, but the battery life dropped from 22 hours with macOS to 7 hours with Linux, so I decided to run Linux emulated with Parallels inside macOS, since the battery lasted longer that way. Then I realized that all Linux applications are available for macOS, and the shell is similar, it is Linux-like, so it does not make much sense to use Linux if you already have macOS. But if you are used to using those huge PC machines with very powerful hardware, but without an operating system that can communicate well with that hardware to fully use its potential, then for me it does not make much sense, although I respect those who use them. I also refused to use macOS until the M series came out, M1, M2, M3, and so on. These laptops are simply an engineering miracle because of their speed, battery usage, lack of fans, lack of overheating, lack of noise, and how little space they take up. It is as if someone had traveled through time and brought back a laptop from the future, and I am not exaggerating, this really is in another league. I have used several photo developing programs. I really like Capture One Pro because of the kind of color profile it uses, although nobody develops photos better than Nikon’s own software. A while ago, I used to do the same thing you do with dual boot. There are also several Commons users who have completely abandoned Windows and Lightroom or Photoshop, which is consistent with the free software philosophy and the spirit of sharing of Wikimedia Commons. Regarding sensor protection, I think I had read before that the Z9 had this feature, although with the Z7II I never needed to change lenses in dirty places. The type of photography I do does not require high burst speeds, like sports photography or very fast animals. In the future, I plan to buy a 50mm f/1.8 from the S line, but I cannot afford it right now. I am in Brazil, and the tax is almost 100% of the lens value, so I prefer to wait a while and buy it in Canada when I return there. At the moment, I mainly use a Nikon 100–400mm S-line lens, but I have been choosing carefully when and where to take it out. I am a bit afraid of carrying something so expensive on Brazilian streets. Maybe I am exaggerating and have missed many good shots, but I cannot put myself at risk. Wilfredor (talk) 00:55, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
