Using CCPI data: What you can and cannot do

The CCPI Index is designed to promote transparency and comparability in international climate policy. We encourage wide use by journalists, scientists, educators, NGOs, and the general public. However, we distinguish clearly between non-commercial and commercial use of the CCPI data.

Non-commercial use

You may freely download and use our publicly available brochures (2007-2026) for non-commercial purposes, including:

• Academic research and publications
• Journalistic reporting
• Educational and civil society initiatives

This use is governed by our Terms of Use. No seperate permission is required if your use qualifies as non-commercial.

If you require extended data (e.g. time series, Excel files, policy data) for non-commercial purposes, please contact Jan Burck (jan.burck@germanwatch.org). We may ask you to sign a non-disclosure agreement and cover a processing fee.

What counts as commercial use?

Any use of the CCPI data by financial institutions, ESG service providers, consultants, or technology providers – even for internal purposes such as portfolio analysis, reporting, or investment strategy – is considered commercial use and requires a paid license.

Examples include:

• Using CCPI scores in investment analysis or ESG frameworks
• Integrating CCPI data into internal tools, reports, or platforms
• Referencing CCPI metrics in client-facing materials
