There are five basic types of airlift missions according to joint doctrine: (1) passenger and cargo movement, combat employment and sustainment, aeromedical evacuation, special operations support, and operational support airlift. Primary consideration is given to the missions of passenger and cargo movement and combat employment and sustainment airlift missions.
