Travel Service is leasing the airplane - a more fuel-efficient, quieter, and longer-range version of the 737 jet - from GECAS, the commercial aircraft leasing and financing arm of General Electric.

This new order brings the total number of Airbus aircraft ordered by GECAS to almost 600 aircraft.

According to Boeing the Next-Generation 737-800 will be operated by Xiamen Airlines, a GECAS leasing customer in China.

GECAS, the commercial aircraft leasing and financing arm of General Electric, signed an order for 12 additional long-range A330-300 aircraft.

"We already have agreements in place with both Gecas and BBAM and it is clear from their willingness to enter into further ties with us that they have been pleased with what flydubai has delivered so far," stated Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai.

The planes will be paid for by GECAS only on delivery and then leased to flydubai.

Gecas died in Edinburgh just over a week after it was announced a warrant for his arrest would not be executed due to his ill health, preventing his extradition.

Gecas' death came just over a week after the Scottish Executive ruled that he was too ill to be sent back to Lithuania to face charges involving the slaughter of thousands of Jews.

The move comes nearly six months after the Lithuanian government asked the Scottish authorities to extradite Mr Gecas.
